L'Équipe is a French sports television network, which has been called La Chaîne L'Équipe to distinguish it from its newspaper namesake. It launched as a subscription channel in 1998 and grew with the support of cable providers.
On 31 August 1998, Groupe Amaury launched a television channel spun off from its daily sports newspaper L'Équipe. The new TV station served as Canalsatellite's sport news network and competed against TPS' Infosport with an increased focus on live events. On 5 March 2012, Groupe Amaury answered an invitation to tender for one of six new high definition DTT slots extended by the French television regulatory authority called CSA. Its proposal was backed by the country's horse racing industry in order to get their own station into homes around France - nextRadioTV offered RMC SportHD instead which does not have broadcasting rights for all international competitions like L'Equipe TV does.
