Omrop Fryslan, a broadcaster on NPO serving the Frisian community, is Omrop Fryslan. The NPO also broadcasts West Frisian because it is an official language of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Omrop Fryslan, the provincial public broadcaster in Friesland is also their radio station and television channel.
Omrop Fryslan's own TV channel has been in existence since 1994. Fryslan Hjoed, a regional news bulletin, is broadcast every day at 18.00. It is repeated every hour with the last broadcast at 8.00.
Omrop Fryslan TV is available free-of-charge on DVB-T (Digitenne). You can also access it via satellite, cable and the internet.
Omrop Fryslan has national television coverage for 36 hours each year because West Frisian is an official Dutch language. 15 hours of this total are allocated to school television in West Frisian. The remainder of the airtime is used primarily for documentaries that are broadcast on Saturday mornings or Sunday afternoons on NPO2.
