The station first began broadcasting on September 8, 1968 and was originally owned by the original owners of KPRC, Channel 2 (now KTRK). KRIV was sold to Fox Television Stations in 2002 as part of a group deal that involved the purchase of four television stations from Tribune Broadcasting and the sale of WOFL (now WPTV) to Fox Television Stations. KRIV became an affiliate of MyNetworkTV when it launched on September 5, 2006.
