BBC Three is the third television network of the British public broadcaster BBC. The BBC describes the channel's profile as follows: "BBC Three is never afraid to try new things, to delight, to broadcast entertainment and documentaries."BBC Three broadcasts from 19:00 until approximately 04:00 uk time. In the Netherlands and Belgium, BBC Three is easily received via satellite position Astra 28.2 ° E.
BBC Three was the successor to BBC choice, a digital British television channel. It was launched on 9 February 2003, eleven months later than planned. The BBC had wanted to launch BBC Three along with BBC Four, but a debate over the broadcast format - what eventually became 576i - delayed the launch.
The channel was described at the time by the BBC as an outlet for 'new drama, new talent, British humour, top films and accessible News'. BBC Three then broadcast from 19:00 to 4:00 (English time), as the remaining time was taken up by children's channel CBBC.
Unlike commercial rivals, 90% of the programming on the station came from home or other countries from the European Union. 80% was produced by the BBC itself and varied in genre: news, drama, humour and animation. The news on BBC Three had a unique 60 second format and was broadcast in between some programmes. This format was adopted so that the administration of the channel could be fully automated, without having to deal with live news that varies in length.
The channel could only be followed via the internet due to budget cuts from February 16, 2016 to January 31, 2022. On 2 March 2021, the BBC decided that the channel would return from 1 February 2022.
